Taranaki Steelformers sign on as a Taranaki Rugby Major Partner

By Taylor Haskell

Taranaki Rugby is proud to announce that Taranaki Steelformers has signed on as a TRFU Major Partner for the next three years.

The partnership demonstrates Taranaki Steelformers continued commitment to Taranaki Rugby which will see their brand displayed on the lower back of all Yarrows Taranaki Bulls jerseys.

In addition, Taranaki Steelformers have also taken on Naming Rights of Taranaki Rugby’s soon to be completed training facility, Te Whare Pūngao o Ngā-motu (The Energy House of New Plymouth).

The facility onsite at Stadium Taranaki will be known as Te Whare Pūngao o Ngā-motu presented by Taranaki Steelformers.

Taranaki Steelformers have been heavily involved in the construction of the 525m2 building. The facility will become a central home for the rugby community across all levels of the game as well as being a training space for athletes from a range of sporting codes and community organisations.

For over 40 years, Taranaki Steelformers have been proud to be the largest locally owned and operated manufacturer of metal roofing, wall cladding and rainwater goods for commercial, industrial and residential projects.

The family business was established by Darrell & Beverley Back in 1983 with son Brendon (capped for the Yarrows Taranaki Bulls in 2003) and wife Clare now managing the Taranaki portfolio.

Steelformers have grown their business to four branches spanning across Taranaki, Whanganui and King Country.

Taranaki Steelformers Director Brendon Back says: “Taranaki Steelformers has had a long relationship with the TRFU. We are excited to enter this new level of support for Taranaki Rugby and the training facility. It adds to our support of our community and is the next step to what is being achieved by Taranaki Rugby, Taranaki Youth Boost and other pathways programmes. We can’t wait to see the results and progress of young athletes who will use the facility.”

TRFU Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Fastier extended his gratitude to the Back family for their unwavering support to Taranaki Rugby.

“We are delighted to have Taranaki Steelformers join Taranaki Rugby’s proud family of Major Partners alongside Principal Partner Yarrows the Bakers and Canterbury of New Zealand and The Devon Hotel. Darrell & Beverley and Brendon & Clare Back’s support of Taranaki Rugby extends all the way back to the 1990s and they are well known for supporting all things local. This partnership is testament to their commitment to Taranaki.”

“Taranaki Steelformers are also passionate about Taranaki youth. Their backing of Te Whare Pūngao o Ngā-motu as Naming Rights Partner will enable the next generation of Taranaki to chase their goals which makes for great alignment.”
